Clove buds Essential oil Madagascar
Odor: spicy, pungent with woody, fruity, and dry facets
Use: The clove is the flower bud of the tropical clove tree. Originally from Indonesia's Maluku Islands, the clove tree is a small tree reaching 15 meters in height with aromatic evergreen foliage, the raw material used to extract an essential oil: clove leaf essential oil. It belongs to the Myrtaceae family of aromatic trees, alongside the gigantic eucalyptus trees, the inseparable melaleucas – tea tree, cajeput, niaouli –, and myrtle. Bud harvesting is performed manually on trees at least five years old. Local pickers climb the trees to collect the precious budding flowers. Several harvest rounds are needed, as the flowers do not develop homogeneously. The buds are dried prior to being distilled, resulting in an essential oil with a spicy, pungent fragrance with woody, fruity, and dry facets.

Clove Bud Oil
Odor: warm clove
Use: Clove was much used by the Greeks, Roman and the Chinese for its medicinal value. One of the most potent antiseptics, Europeans doctors once breathed through clove-filled leather beaks to ward off the plague. The Chinese used it to ease toothache and as a breath sweetener, especially when talking to the Emperor. Clove has antiseptic properties and was used in the prevention of contagious diseases. It is still much used in perfumes, mulled wines and liqueurs, love potions, dental products and, stuck in an orange as pomade and an insect repellent. The dried spice, steeped in wine, was formerly given to ease the pain of childbirth.

Use: Clove is one of the most important spice of commerce. Cloves are the unopened flower buds of small evergreen tree. The tropical tree known as Syzygium aromaticum and botanically popular as Eugenia Carryophyllus produces the commercially valuable cloves. The Ordour, flavours and Oil content are important criteria in the food industry. Sri Lankan Cloves have been found to be richer in Oil than those from Madagascar and Tanzania. The plant grows to a height of 12-15 meters and takes 20 years to reach full bearing and then continue to bear fruit for about 50 years. The Clove is a pretty tree with reddish tender leaves. The major spice is the unopened flower bud which is harvested along with it’s steam and dried in the shade. The buds and steams are dried separately. The drying process has to be carefully monitored as it is akin to a curing process, and the quality of the aroma develops during this stage. Oils are distilled from the buds, stems and leaves. The authentic Oil of Clove is Clove Bud Oil with the fragrant and mellow aroma. The Sri Lankan distilled Oil has a high demand and is renowned for it’s superior aroma and pungency. Our Clove Bud Oil is distilled from selected raw materials from direct sources where the growing conditions as well as the drying process is well scrutinised.

Use: This tropical tree was discovered on the Molucca Islands and cultivated since the early 19th century. When clove buds are about to open, they are picked and sun dried for three days during which they obtain their dark colour and particular shape. They are then either sold as a spice or processed to obtain the extract. The leaves and twigs are also extracted to confer an herbaceous tone to fragrance compounds.
