Vanilla absolute preserves the complexity and animalic undertones of the vanilla bean which is lost in production of the so-called ‘oleoresin’ of vanilla. Arctander writes extensively about vanilla in all its forms describing vanilla absolute as “The highest concentration of vanilla aroma (perfume and flavour)”. Notoriously difficult to dissolve, the absolute is presented here at 50% in a solution of half ethanol, half DPG in order to make it easier to handle. Vanilla Absolute is very dark brown and semisolid, just about pourable at room temperature. It is less rich in odor than the direct alcohol extraction products, and the perfumery effect is not proportional to its concentration over the vanilla tinctures.
