Mint arvensis dementholized Essential oil India
Odor: minty fresh
Use: Mentha arvensis or mint, also called “field mint” and “cornmint,” is a perennial plant covered with very fine hairs. The square stems bear oval leaves with serrated edges. Small, lilac-colored flowers form dense heads at the tops of the stems. This wild species grows in meadows and along the edges of wetlands in Europe. In India, it is grown by smallholders on plots of not more than a hectare. Harvesting is done by hand, reaping with a sickle. The aromatic greens are then dried in the open air before being transported to the distillery to be steam-distilled. The resulting essential oil is then dementholated through freezing. The plant contains so much menthol that it precipitates at room temperature. Indeed, Menthe arvensis is a “menthol mint,” like peppermint. The cooling process crystallizes the menthol and helps clarify the essential oil. Despite this process, the mint essential oil still retains 50% of this molecule and thus conserves its minty fresh character.

Odor: characteristic
Use: Cornmint: Mentha arvensis, steam distilled herb/leaf/flower, India. Menthol and menthyl acetate are the major constituents of this essential oil. Its aroma is strong, fresh and somewhat bittersweet. It is widely used in flavoring toothpastes, moutwashes and pharmaceuticals. This oil is good for the nervous system acting as a regulator and sedative. Because it is antiseptic and anti-bacterial, it can be used in swollen gums, mouthwash or mouth ulcers, and toothache remedies. Not to be taken internally.

Odor: Menthol Herbaceous Fruity
Use: Cornmint is the most menthol concentrated of the five authentic mint species. These wild species hybridise easily when they grow close to each other. Native to North America, cornmint had its main production overtaken by India. The essential oil, produced by steam distillation of flower clusters, is well employed in medicine but also in perfumery for its sweet, tangy and refreshing smell.

The Perfumery
Cornmint (Mentha arvensis)
Odor: characteristic
Use: This variety of Cornmint oil is a raw, single/first cut distillation. The aroma is strong, fresh, and bittersweet. The total menthol content when first distilled is over 70%, however some crystalizes can occur often leaving the menthol content in the 50-60% range. It's worth noting that due to the unique characteristics, this material is not within ISO specifications.
The Perfumery
Cornmint oil, India
Odor: characteristic
Use: Cornmint oil has a clean, fresh, penetrating aroma with a strong menthol note. It lacks the sweetness of Peppermint and the earthiness of Pennyroyal, but maintains a warm and pleasant note. Cornmint oil blends well with Basil, Black Pepper, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Juniper Berry, Lavender, Pine, Ravensara, and Rosemary.

Notes:
The essential oil is steam distilled from the herb of Mentha Arvensis immediately prior to the inflorescence of the plant, is known in the U. S. A. as Mint Oil or Cornmint Oil, while it is quite commonly called peppermint oil in other parts of the world. The latter term is definitely wrong and misleading. Only the plant mentha piperita yields true peppermint oil. tsca definition 2008: extractives and their physically modified derivatives. mentha arvensis, var. piperascens, labiatae.
