Use: Adam Michael has this to say “In my humble opinion the IFRA compliant oakmoss absolute is so heavily stripped back and lifeless. From a full bodied wonder we end up with an emaciated tragedy and I refuse point blank to ever carry this IFRA compliant material. The oakmoss absolute we offer at Hermitage Oils is NOT the compliant IFRA version and instead all we offer here is the full bodied, happy, untouched wonderful oakmoss absolute that less and less companies are sadly offering today.”

Odor: characteristic
Use: Oakmoss Absolute has a heavy, musky, agrestic aroma which brings an exquisite depth of character to many blends. Oakmoss is often used as a base note fixative in masculine blends or for rounding out floral notes. It's worth nothing that this material is more viscous than typical oils, therefore my require more care before blending.

IFRA FLAVOR REQUIREMENTS:

Due to the possible ingestion of small amounts of fragrance ingredients from their use in products in Categories 1 and 6, materials must not only comply with IFRA Standards but must also be recognized as safe as a flavoring ingredient as defined by the IOFI Code of Practice (www.iofi.org). For more details see chapter 1 of the Guidance for the use of IFRA Standards.

Use levels for FEMA GRAS flavoring substances on which the FEMA Expert Panel based its judgments that the substances are generally recognized as safe (GRAS).
The Expert Panel also publishes separate extensive reviews of scientific information on all FEMA GRAS flavoring substances and can be found at FEMA Flavor Ingredient Library

Notes:
One of the most important of all the oakmoss products if not the most important is the Absolute of Oakmoss. It is generally prepared by alcohol extraction of the concrete. For florals, use jasmin, rose, cassie, or orangeflower. For freshness use bergamot, lemon, linalool-linalyl acetate, or citronellyl formate. For stability and depth use patchouli, vetiver, coumarin, or musks. For tone use ylang, coriander, sweet orange, tarragon, or vanillin.
