Glutamine is nutritionally classified as a nonessential amino acid. It is also considered a conditionally essential amino acid, since its requirement increases significantly in conditions of accelerated catabolism—such as metabolic stress—so that its demand cannot be met by in vivo synthesis alone.

Notes:
a non-essential amino acid present abundantly throughout the body and is involved in many metabolic processes. it is synthesized from glutamic acid and ammonia. it is the principal carrier of nitrogen in the body and is an important energy source for many cells. Widely distributed in plants, e.g. beetroot. Flavouring ingredient. Dietary supplement Glutamine (Gln) is one of the 20 amino acids encoded by the standard genetic code.
