Use: Physcion is an anthraquinone from roots of Rheum officinale Baill.It has also shown anti-fungal activity against barley powdery mildew and cucumber powdery mildew, more efficiently in the latter case than treatments with fenarimol and polyoxin B.

Use: Anthraquinones are components in many medicines of plant origin since they possess a broad spectrum of biological activity including antibacterial, purgative, anti-inflammatory, astringent, antiviral, antioxidant and antifungal properties. Physcion controls powdery mildew mainly through changing the expression of defence-related genes, and especially enhancing expression of leaf-specific thionin in barley leaves.
