Use: Acetonitrile is a clear, colourless liquid with ethereal odour. The primary industrial utility of Acetonitrile is as a solvent. It is an excellent polar aprotic solvent, with a high dipole moment and dielectric constant. As solvent Acetonitrile is used in organic and biochemical reactions, as well as extraction solvent for purification. Acetonitrile can be used as starting material in the synthesis of amines, amides, amidines, ketones, carboxylic acids and esters, aldehydes and other compounds.
